eduroam on the iPhone (and iPod Touch)
In addition to the TU Delft Luchthaven (WiFi+VPN) profile, I created a general profile to easily install the settings for the eduroam wireless network on your iPhone.
How it works: load up Safari on your iPhone or iPod Touch and go to:
ceaseless.ws/eduroam.mobileconfig
That's it - your iPhone/Ipod will load the profile, just accept it and type your username (netid@tudelft.nl for the TU Delft) + password and you're done!
You can also load any MobileConfig file by emailing it (as an attachment) to your iPhone.

I have tried the above mentioned method to configure the settings for Eduroam. When I go to ceaseless.ws/eduroam.mobileconfig I get an error message: Safari can't download this file. Why isn't it working for me?
I have an original iPhone (not a 3G) and I am on firmware 1.1.4

Carlos: You'll need firmware 2.0 to install profiles and to use 802.1x required for eduroam. You can upgrade and unlock your iPhone to firmware 2.0 using PwnageTool.

Yeah I have read a lot about that the last couple of weeks. But where can I download that tool and a clear manual or readme to execute the necessary steps?
2008-09-10 @ 21:18
Carlos: If you're on a Mac, Google for "PwnageTool_2.0.3.tbz". The tool is very easy to use so you won't really need a manual. If you're on Windows, use WinPwn (http://www.winpwn.com/).

You should download it when you do have a working connection, of course. It should work on any iPod Touch or iPhone with firmware 2.0 or newer.

Hi Mark,
This worked perfectly for eduroam in Groningen. I was wondering if I can make something for a similar network (RuG-FN2). The different networks have different access-rights to specific servers, so sometimes I want to switch between the networks.
There is a profile already: (http://www.van-rijn.org/Misc/iPhoneRuG/), but with this profile I have to give my password each time. How can I change the profile (I noticed that is was partly XML) so that it doesn't ask for a password each time?
Regards,
Michiel

Michiel:
The easiest way is to use the iPhone Configuration Utility provded by Apple (http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/enterprise/). You can probably also change the XML, but that'd be a lot more cumbersome than just using the utility.

Hello
I have a ipod touch 2G, which was jailbreaked but after the upgrade

is it necessary to have a jailbreak ipod?
I downloaded the file to my ipod but hte connection failed.
when I open your with the iphone
configuration tool (IPCU.exe)I see
that you used WEP enterprise, for my university it should be WPA enterprise.
how can I change that configuration?

Uwe,
- It works on any iPhone or iPod Touch with firmware version >= 2.0, no matter if it's jailbroken.
- The profile might actually work fine with WPA enterprise. Otherwise, use the configuration utility to edit it. Check the manual that comes with it for usage instructions.

Waarom staat er telkens not verified in het profiel?

Omdat het profiel gesigned is met een certificaat dat jouw iPhone/iPod niet kan verifiëren.

Hey,
I have also problems with your created profile...
I have an ipod touch and I'm using version. 3.1.2.
Anyway, I could use eduroam when I was a TUD student. Now I became a TUD employee and I deleted the old eduroam profile. Afterwards I reinstalled the profile with my new TUD-netid and password.
Since that, it does not work anymore. I was thinking whether there is another file on my ipod touch I have to delete and change to my new netid???
cheers, tomtom

tomtom: that should actually work. Try the more specific profile at http://ceaseless.ws/tudelft.mobileconfig.
If that doesn't work: try removing all eduroam-related profiles and also 'forgetting' the eduroam network (Settings -> Wi-Fi -> eduroam -> Forget) and any other TU-networks you might have tried. Then re-install the profile. After installing, don't try to force a connection to eduroam but simply open Safari and open a webpage.

Tried the TU Delft.mobileconfig and Mark Jansen's eduroam.mobileconfig with the same poor result.
My 3gs seems to be trying to make a connection: looking in "Instellingen" Wi-Fi, it blinks "eduroam" / "Geen verbinding".
A difference with what is said about the installation of Delft.mobileconfig: I do not get the popup window on the certificate?!?!
Sometimes there seems to be a connection for a minute or so.

Mark, to help the people with 2-secs disconnect problems:
try making another profile using the Iphone Configuration Utility, with only a Wifi payload with the following settings: Security = "WEP Enterprise", EAP = "TTLS", Autentication protocol = "PAP". This helped me after a lot of fiddling around using my Iphone at the RUG (University Groningen). Looks like the WPA profile is not working here.
